Why did you reverse it? And did you just unspool it and then put it back on?

It's a way of utilizing the line next to spool that has not been used for anything but backing. You can unspool it but the best way to do it is take one empty reel and reel the line off another full reel onto the empty one. The line that has been used previously becomes your backing.

I just tied the end that had the snap on it to another reel and reel it up, mrdux hit the nail on the head.

I get the 1500 yard spool and put 200 feet on each real, Goodtime and I both lined our reels and have some left, think it was 119 bucks for the spool.

You guys using braid can't appreciate this. Over Memorial weekend we were slamming huge crappie and bass trolling cranks but the channel catfish were terrible. We were probably catching 5 cats to every crappie. I had let one of my Okumas free-spool with a crank on it and got distracted. When I noticed the reel was in free-spool it was because it was almost down to the center shaft on the spool. I grabbed it and noticed the line-counter read OVER 900 feet of line out. I started reeling and noticed it sure didn't feel right. I had a c55 which pulls hard on it. It just didn't feel like it was only bait I was reeling in. I thought it was the bait and line drag from that much line. We were moving at 1.7-1.8. I finally realized I had a passenger on the c55--a 3 pound channel cat. I took what seemed like 5 minutes to reel that stupid catfish and 900 feet of line in. I had several hundred feet of cheap backing on the reel and guess I had tied a good knot between the backing and line. It all worked out in the end.

Looks almost identical to the Okuma reels
    Thanks Slabo,
I had missed seeing these earlier. I was looking under the trolling reel section. It looks like a nice reel, I might have to give them a try.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

I use 8 baitcasters line with Power pro depth hunter line. Line is mark every 5 foot and changes color every 25 feet. I use 200 foot on each reel making sure thee same color is first coming off the reels. Have used it with spinning reels as well, same principle and works great.
