Dr Phillip Gawthrop and I had a very short crappie trip this AM. Weather was a little bit unsettled with clouds, rain, thunder and then sunshine followed by clouds and thunder and wind, followed by calm wind and clouds. But we caught a few fish. 19 total crappie, but, with only 9 being keepers. Best one was 13.25. The keepers that we caught we nice ones, but had 10 short fish today and I'm always happy to see some short fish being caught along with the keepers.
A nice sized white bass was caught and 3 spotted bass. The crappie and white bass went home with Dr Phil and the spotted bass when home with me. My wife and I both love the bass even better than the crappie. We caught our fish on Bobby Garland Mo-Glo Blue Ghost 2" Baby Shads on 1/16 oz jig heads. I did catch one keeper on Patriot color. They wouldn't hit anything else. Bass came on the Blue Ghost.
Early on, we had a few of the crappie that were on a shallow shelf on one of the bluffs that we fish, but most of the fish came deep. Over 15 feet. We were sitting in 18 feet of water when the biggest spotted bass hit and also the biggest crappie came off this same structure. It was a ledge along the Tennessee River. We found a lot of fish on some of our bamboo hotels, but they weren't interested in us today for some reason. Maybe the weather? Who knows for sure. Grin.
