Default Report: Chickamauga Lake crappie 6/29/2015

The night bite has to be improving because the day bite is declining by the day. Water temp this AM on Chickamauga was 83.3 and that was early before the sun began beating down. But, it was a cool 61 degrees air temp and made for a chilly ride early. Ricky and I fished for 1/2 day before the sun finally drove us off the water. 12 keepers and 3 short crappie was all that we could muster plus 3 small trashy green fish that Ricky had fun reeling in. We released the bass and kept the 12 crappie for one of my future dinners.

We caught fish on bluffs, underwater island or hump if you will, and off shore structure. We did not fish docks. Ricky and I both prefer to fish off shore or deep water. I'm positive that we could have caught many more crappie if we had chosen to fish docks. We did check out roadbeds, points, etc on our scouting trip today. I caught a couple of crappie off a deep water bamboo hotel that we put out about 2 months ago. First time for that I have caught fish on that one, although fish have been showing up on it from the time that we dropped it. It is in a great spot. 22 feet deep and the bamboo stands up around 15 feet. Crappie all over it today. Grin.

Bobby Garland lures were the only lures that we threw unless Ricky threw a Bonehead jig for a while. Caught fish on Mo-Glo Blue Ghost, 3" Love Bug Slab Slayer, and 3" Penny Back Slab Slayer. I can't think of any other color that produced fish, although we tried a few more colors without success. The underwater hump had 15 feet of water on top and deep water all around it. Fish were on one of the slopes of the hump. Fished the bluff early and caught 5 keepers in short order. Then the bite stopped. We moved. The rest was a fish or two here and there. Had fun and didn't get too hot.
