I like just a small breeze. With a slight breeze keeps the swarm gnats, is what I called them away. I used the shop lamps on side of the boat to watch my lines but they draw a lot of them swarm gnats.

either one fine with me. the moon seems to have more of an effect on the night bite. some night you can draw minnows some night not. i dont know why this is but it is.

green or blue lights dont draw near as many bugs as white lights. i like a small colored led in the boat and a submersible about 2 ft under water. if you get a school of minnows you should get a school of craps too. but, like everything in fishing its not magic. when it works it works big usually.

I like slick water, but only because I typically have my ice fishing gear out there night fishing. If everything holds still I can keep my small ice jig under the transducer.

Like mentioned....the moon is more of what I look at. The darker the night, the better the draw of baitfish and in turn crappie.

Yu have to fish where Yu know there are fish. No difference than fishing during the daytime. Otherwise even at nite Yu have to locate them. I always nite fish where I have caught them before. Right now weather and rain and all these fronts can mess things up too. Don't give up and keep trying.

    2nd that!

if possible get to the lake before dark and work some areas you like. see if you see or catch some and note that for later. i have had nights with a ball of shad bigger than my boat and very few bites until late. the marks were down there but spread out from top to bottom and wouldnt bite. that lake is known for its late night bite even threw ice season. about 10:30 we started to pull fish. by 12:30 we had our 3 man limit. this same lake will turn on before daylight on the ice also. lights work before sun up too!

you spoke of structure only found in a reservoir. in that case you have another huge factor to deal with. THE DAM ! that flow can turn them on or shut them down and i bet its doing it frequently lately too! watch the river scale below your dam and find out how it correlates to the bite and where that bite is.

put your puzzle together as it pertains to your waters.

I prefer more still water...seems to keep floating mat of bugs close to boat which draws minnows etc. I put two propane lanterns just above water, sometimes a submersible white or green 2-3ft deep, and one floating light. Brighter the moon the worst the fishing has been my experience. Almost always fish in 30ft. of water 12 to 15ft.down, most electronics can help you see thermocline. I always use ice jigs and only the ones that glow.
