    Randy, why not have a shop cut out a shelf from aluminum 1/4 plate , drill 4 holes through it and the existing shelf and bolt it on or pop rivet it on. You can make it a little deeper and let it stick out further if you need. You could even prime the exiting shelf to make it stop rusting. About a 30 minute project at most.

    Or if you want to spend big bucks.....do like Danny says but use stainless steel......you could use a thinner piece if you use that.

    I have a good friend that used to weld for a living and works on boats/trailers all the time, he's in the Duson area. If you would like to talk with him message me and I could give you his number. He has some steps similar to what you want on his trailer too lol.
