Default I have been fishing report.

Guys I have been fishing but have made my reports on other forums because the motor boat has not seen water in the last two months. Been kayak fishing only since the end of the spawn and having a great time fishing some of the smaller lakes in the upstate of SC and NC. The crappie bite has been great with nice fish caught but like any lake you have to find where they are holding on any given day because we all know it does change day to day.

    A few pics,

This weekend we had three kayak clubs come together for a heads up club to club tournament but the main reason was to have a fund drive to help out "NOW", Hero’s on the Water, South Carolina . We were able to make up $540, just shows small groups can come together to make a difference.
The wind made it tough and the fishing wasn't hot but fish were caught. I lost a big cat at the boat when my shakespeare catfish rod popped and my line cut on the broken rod. It happens but man the sound that rod made when it popped!!!
Per the rules each team was to enter their teams top 10 cats ( total length) and we, the UpState club won it by 32''. We plan to do this each year and a trophy will be passed around to the winner each year.

I hope all are having fun on our waters catching some fish or just enjoying being on the lakes and rivers.

    On another note -
I have agreed to do a Crappie Fishing Seminar at Cabelas in Greenville SC this Thursday the 18th from 7:00-8:30 pm. Our club is doing a seminar Series and this will be the second seminar. If you have some free time come out and join us there, I hope to be able to share some info about crappie fishing to the ones that fish for and to the ones that want to fish for crappie. We will be in the conference room near the cafe

I have been able to implant the love of crappie fishing into a few die-heart bass fisherman this year

I've followed some of your reports on other forums and I always enjoy your Kayak post. Fishing in a small paddle boat on small bodies of water is how I got my start, and I hold those memories dear. Where did those crappie in the live well shot come from, they have beautiful markings. Good luck with seminar, I'm certain you'll do an excellent job with lots of good information. Thanks for the pics and post.

Tim they came from one of the NC mountain lake. Clear water and all the fish in those lakes are beautiful colored. You wouldn't think the cool clear water would make the colors pop in the fish.

A gill from the same lake.

Glad you are still fishing and putting some fish in the boat. My boat is parked while I replace the carpet with marine vinyl. Hope to be back on the water in a couple weeks Don

Glad to see youve been spending some time on the water too Ronnie. Congrats on the yak trips and the catches. And thanks for sharing those pictures. Did you catch alot of bream the size of that bluegill?

You know me....all Ive been chasing is the crappie and have had a couple of great months after 'em. Now the water is around 82* at first lite and the bite has slowed ALOT (atleast for me). I spent yesterday afternoon cleaning up a neglected boat. I think with the temps where theyre at now (in the low to mid 90's) I am planning on giving fishing a well deserved rest and just go whenever I cant scratch that itch that I know I'll get every now and then. Sounds like the nightstalkers will continue keeping the forums active anyway. And please continue posting about your trips too. It's always good...and especially with the pictures.

Oh yea...good luck with the seminars. I know you'll do just fine.

Butch I did have a day where I caught some good gills along with some crappie. The gill bite has been hit and miss for me this year but I haven't fished for just gills on any given day. Hard not to go for crappie when on the lakes. I set up Friday night on the yak to try to pull in some crappie, catfish was all I was getting to bite so I gave up around midnight. Should have kept on fishing as it was to dang hot to sleep Friday night without air or a fan in my truck tent I put up using a tarp for the night. Was going to stay Saturday night also but one night was enough for me!!

Here is a stringer with the gill and crappie. The pic posted above with the cooler full of fish, my friend Zac built that and he had two shellcrackers in there that was as big as the crappie. He called the shellcrappie

Looks like a fun time Ronnie. What really sounds good is a cool mountain lake. Hope it was cooler there than here.
