Default Report: Chickamauga Lake crappie 6/14/15

Dr Phillip Gawthrop and I hit the water at 6:30 this AM in search of crappie. With only 10 Pros fishing the FLW final day, we thought that it wouldn't be too crowded and we were right, although around 7:00, maybe 5 or so of the 10 boats came zooming by with their entourage in tow.

We hit docks early and off shore structure later in the AM and finished up on vertical structure. We caught fish every place that we tried. We landed 32 keepers size and had at least 1/2 dozen flip off at the boat when we didn't try to net them. It was a good morning. The lake had dropped about 8 to 10 inches since I was out on Thursday and one dock in particular that I have been waiting to fish had a few fish on it. We didn't abuse it long before we headed to deeper water and off shore delta cuts. There we found the mother lode. We finished our two limits and put the boat on the trailer before 11:00 AM.

Lures that caught fish today: All Bobby Garland lures. 3" Daddee shad in Lights Out, 3" Slab Slayer in Penny Back, 2" Baby Shad in Glacier, 2" Mo Glo Blue Ghost Baby Shad and 2" Baby Shad Full Moon. We fished 1/32, 1/24, 1/16, and 3/32 oz jigs. The 1/24 seemed to draw the most bites, but early on a deep dock, the 3/32 did shine.

The technique for drawing the fish to bite. On docks, we let the jig settle to the bottom, then slowly worked it back and dead stick the lure at the boat. Hot bite. On the Delta structure, we could not get a bite by casting upriver or downriver and swimming the jig. The only way to get the bites was to position the boat just off the steep drop off and cast cross current, slightly upstream and let the jig settle about 15 feet or so and then work it across the face of the drop off. Dr Phil caught a couple of nice White Bass on this structure as well as the crappie.

Good report, seems like it took a bit of experimenting to get the bite in a spot.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Good report D K. You give them a lot of choices. Looks like early mornings are the best times of late.
