Size: 118.4 KB I hit a local lake this morning and got there a 6:00 am. The air was heavy with the dampness from yesterday's rain. Being surrounded with grassy sides and pasture beyond that ,the water was gin clear.
I started out using slip float set up's but quickly changed the rods over to jig with a shot a couple-three feet above. I fished mostly wax worms til I got low and switched to salted shrimp bits with hardly a noticeable change in the bite.
I was out to bring home some meat today ,but pitched back some larger males that had nice color. Most girls were 8" with a smattering of 7" and 9" fish. One of the Red Ear was 91/2" which is good for this lake . Most all were caught just off the bottom trolling. I switched off jigs a few times but all seemed to work pretty good with the exception of the white legged jig. The salted shrimp bits are "cool" baits .I have been using it for a couple years .I use the cooked and not sure where to find the tiny ones raw .
I got off the water at noon.

Nice catch. Could you explain trolling for gills.

I fish from a float tube. I can lodge a rod handle so the tip sticks out over the water to each side. I just kick off or as with today let the wind be my motor. Most of the time I troll with a single hand held rod .
