    Default First Time Night Fishing

Ay Night Stalkers out there willing to share any night fishing tips on Lake Lanier? I've heard that six mile creek area, around the bridge is a really good area. Any advice on location, depth, lighting techniques would be greatly appreciated!

I too have only recently started night fishing for crappie on Lanier. Since Memorial day weekend, all the other boaters during the day became too much to handle. I have been fishing up the Chestatee, but the fish seem to be moving south. So I imagine to 6 mile creek should be picking up. From my little experience and watching others, the green lights seem to work best. 2 weeks ago I was in between 2 boats using green. I had white lights. They must have caught 20 crappie each, I only caught 2 crappie, but a bunch of barely legal strippers. I don't know what depth they where at, but my 2 crappie where in the 5 to 10 feet down. I suspect was right below the light level. Hope this helps some. BTW, I know have green lights on my boat and will let you know what happens the next time I go out.

Clarks bridge is usually good this time of year for night fishing as it has deep water under it. Buy you a 4FT hydroglo light and should pull anything around you to your boat.

Keep your depth finder on and watch for activity. Fish moving under the boat will appear as lines since the boat isnt moving. Watch the depths of those lines and you'll know how deep to have your baits. Just count 'em down. Good luck!

When I was just a little feller at Lanier we used to see the boats lined up under the bridge on Fri and Sat nights. It was nothin to count 12-15 boats and these days it's rare we see 2-3. We seen a few boats with the green lights working the deep water docks but never knew if they were chasin stripes or catchin crappie. If you ever lookin for company at Lanier lemme know and please report back on your success. Good luck!

Crappiesitter, next time check what depth your bait fish are holding, this will be a good starting point. Then adjust your depth through out the night. You might been fishing too shadow. Lot of times your bigger fish will be deeper.
