I got a Windows 8 computer and hated it to start with ..... but eventually learned how to make it work like Windows 7, and like it now...... It just sucks that it took months to get it to do what my old computer did....... I think windows is going to get even worse in the future, things are going to be forced on us that we don't want. ..... There is even going to be a yearly lease on the Microsoft office suite ..... you will never actually own it..... my current computer came with it, but on my previous computer I used Open Office and it worked fine for my use.
I think the OS changes are to suck more money out of the market ..... Not to give us a more functional product.

I installed an SSD drive in my notebook as soon as I got it ..... That made a HUGE difference in performance, and they are a LOT less susceptible to vibration or shock.....At the time I bought it, it was more cost effective to upgrade the drive instead of buying one with the SSD pre-installed. That may be chaging since the SSD drives are getting cheaper and cheaper ....still gotta do those image backups though.

There are still a lot of programs that won't run on Mac, even though most people that have them wouldn't have anything else.
I have seen a lot of posts with people having issues with Humminbird PC and Humviewer trying to run them on an Apple computer.

Get you an apple laptop and be done with it!! I run VMware fusion and windows on it only, when I want to run HBPC, otherwise just run the apple software.
Seriously I have been using apple computers 20+ years for work. Printing/graphic design. Still have the first one I bought, and it still works. Have had 15 or so over the years, for employees and myself, never had a virus, and never had a hardware issue.
Last time I had to restart because an apple stopped responding, was years ago. Not days weeks or months but years.
As LarryB said, no matter what you choose, get all the ram you can afford and at least a terabyte of HD.

Redge ..... Can you run Humviewer OK with the VMware fusion also? Do both work in conjunction with Google Earth .... When I am forced to buy another one, I may head toward Apple ...... Although I am a big cheapskate.
