Thread: Trotline Placement Advice

LowePro the AGFC regulation is as follows using Bream for bait .

Prohibited

Use game fish and their parts, dead or alive, for bait or lures, except for 4-inch and smaller bream or bream over 4 inches that were caught by hook and line. (Bream over 4 inches must be counted toward your daily limit.)

I appreciate all the feedback. I have researched this on the web for over a week and found little info and no help. Thank you all!

FWIW this may be the most informative thread out there concerning lining for flatheads.

Got my 10/0 hooks today and have some comments...

GOOD LAWD! If I need a hook this big I'm taking my pistol too!

Everything I've read recommends circle hooks, so I got them. My concern is that the initial opening is too small. Not crazy about how the barb is bent back either. Went ahead and got the only other hooks they had too... Super J's. I've attached a pic. What are y'all's

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I had no idea this was the reg. i thot it was 4 in max.

I do like the curcle hoos best. If they are not "offset", offset them before putting them out. I like the J's as well. But circles are my fav

Don't worry about your circle hooks, they work very well. Just don't fill the gap with too big a bait. If you use them with a rod, don't jerk the hook to set it either, let the hook rotate and catch your fish.

Like he said , circle hooks are designed to catch fish's lip instead of gut hooking. The rotate as fish swims away and once hooked they hold,

Remember to use heavy braid if you have it because a heavy hook is useless with light line. I use stainless because they are tough , stay sharp and don't rust. I never use hooks that big but bigger baits require bigger hooks to ensure better hook ups. Since I lfish in current I also use heavy duty swivels on my limblines.
