I totally agree with these guys and I'll add to keep changing jig body colors til you find one that grabs THEIR attention. Your favorite color may not be the one they want that day. I've gone thru as many as twenty colors looking for the right one. Don't be afraid to change after only a few minutes use. If they like it, it won't make it thru the school.

Thanks for the help ,after reading your posts ,I think part of my problem is not changing it up enough ,I get stuck on casting ,and if im not catching i go back to that too quickly .
Thanks for the tips .. Jon
One other thing...this time of year is a time of transition, the fish are moving towards summer patterns. Fishing can be a day to day adventure until the summer pattern settle in. If things are tough keep the trolling motor in the water and keep on the move, you'll find them sooner or later.
lol crappie max we ate the batteries up sunday in the tourney
I catch a lot of crappie when walleye fishing, drift/troll 0.6mph, small jig tipped with a crawler fished just above the bottom, read as bouncing along. A lot of time, will get something working a different rod, so I reel in quite a bit then set rod aside and go to the rod being played with. Often, the first rod will end up with a crappie
Around here, if they're suspended out in open water, they're looking for or following Shad schools. Pushing/pulling jigs or cranks around those Shad will usually get you bit.
Just finished fishing our annual Spring Fling event on Green River Lake (Ky) and the lake was flooded through most of April/May, so the fish were scattered ... but seemed to be holding around 10-14ft deep in most all water depths. Many fish were caught pushing cranks, but since I'm not equipped for that, I pushed jigs. 10 to 14ft rods with 1/2oz weights @ 1.5ft above jigs (used a variety of colors & styles). Pushing at speeds to keep lines at 45deg angle. 20ft of line out to keep baits at ~12ft deep. (with lines at 45deg angle you multiply length of line out by 0.6 to figure running depth of weight/jig .... 20x0.6=12 )
