Default Lowrance hds 7 touch screen, can I plug it in to a 12 volt supply in the house?

Just wondering if by purchasing another power cord and plugging it into a regulated 12 volt power supply in the house if that would make it easier for me to learn? Look I am totally out of my league with the Lowrance hds 7 touch screen with down and side scan. I was lucky that my installer was a Lowrance dealer and had seen one before. But even he said that he didn't know all that the unit could do.

Be sure to add a 3amp fuse to the positive wire ...

Yep ... I ran my Lowrance Elite 5DSI at home, via an extra power/tdx cord, off a portable jumper battery, when I was learning about it ... when I add GPS coords off websites ... and when I just wanted to play around with it & try new settings.

Yes sir! I only have a 3 amp fuse in the 12 volt power supply. I got it when all the Radio Shack stores were closing around here. And I always fuse everything!

Well I could go outside and set in the boat but the neighbors already think I am nuts!!! Or I could go over and play with the ones at Bass Pro but they might figure out that I have already purchased one from them!! Well I didn't really purchase it my wife did for me! I was honestly being very good I just went in for #8 gold hooks! I guess it was my puppy dog eyes that got her attention!

Thanks again guys! I am sure I will have a lot more questions!!

I have the HDS 7 touchscreen and I find it much easier to use than the non touch. So much easier to add and edit screen by just tapping the screen and popping up the menu rather than having to hunt through page after page to find what your are looking for. That being said, I doubt I will ever learn all the things it is capable of doing.

Have you updated your unit to the version 4.0 yet? My installer and I did after he installed it. He was a Lowrance dealer and he said it did make a difference in the unit.

Good point, version 4 eliminates some of the "hidden" menus that are easy to miss if you don't know to scroll up or down looking for them.
