Is that a flexible toothed belt running down the shaft for raising and lowering the motor? Kinda wondering how that works with the motor being able to turn more than 360 degrees. The gear drive must be able to rotate with the shaft.

Got my Ulterra mounted and ready. I decided to use the universal transducer on the motor because I totally hated the dangling wire set up I used to have with my Terrova.

The belt is actually a gear track attatched to the shaft and inside the shaft groove. A gear motor inside the dome has a spur that mates to the track. As the spur gear rotates, the shaft follows via the attached gear track. It is just a cnc track drive approach for moving objects.

Below the dome is the steering motor which is enclosed in a cast aluminum shell typical of the Terrova.

I haven't opened up the dome of the drive motors, but that is what I know that has to be going on. I have use these techniques in robots and automation. Pretty slick arrangement.

Me too. The first 10 minutes I had mine out I almost broke my transducer cable that I was trying to use, and I was being ver careful and watching it like a hawk! There is no way to mount a different transduce to the actual trolling motor. Im gonna take mine off and just use the US2 i guess. Or get the da'ducer. Havent made my mind up yet.
