Default Pomme de Terre YUCK!!! One Keeper and never saw another one!

Got a very late start after 3 pm today Saturday. I didn't get out of Marine Repair Center until after 1 pm after they installed my new Lowrance Gen 2 with down and side scan. Picked up a friend who had never Crappie fished before until today! Dang I am sure glad I started before age 54 Crappie fishing! Put in at Pittsburg state Park, worked way down towards Nemo Bridge Area going into coves and working the edges throwing jigs. Most of these coves had been producing fish during the last month for us. I pitched every color plus even tipped them with minnows! NOTHING PERIOD!

Decided that maybe I was on the wrong part of the lake so I turned around and headed for the Pomme arm. Went in to the back side cove of Lake Forest Subdivision. My friend Gary learned how to catch green carp! We worked the docks and the sides of the coves casting into the banks. Finally Gary got his first ever Crappie. Sorry the picture is so dark because I was busy trying to throw the kitchen sink at my old fishing hole! I waited until we got the boat back on the trailer at the State Park before I took a picture. We released it back to maybe grow it was a 9.5 inch.

Did talk with a Park Ranger as we were about to pull out and come home. He said everyone he had talked with for the last 3 or 4 days were not doing any good. And most folks said they didn't catch anything today. When only one crappie comes into my boat period it was bad, I couldn't even catch a dink!!

Hope I made a Crappie fisherman today of a very good friend!

I just posted it in the off topic! And yes I was trying to get Gary a mess of fish! When you have a friend who has never ever used 4 pound test line and has never fished out of a boat before you try to take care of your friend. The last time Gary fished it was with 10 pound line in a farm pond for catfish and that was several years ago!

Well when you have a good friend who is in his 50's who has never been in a boat, has never used 4 pound test line, and has never fished for Crappie and you get to watch him catch his first Crappie! That is well worth the trip!

I went to Bass Pro and purchased him a ultra light rod and reel. I took it to him after I had set the drag. He said no way could a person catch fish on that small of equipment.

Not really it happens we did catch several small perch and bass. And to see the look on a guy who has never fished that much before it was well worth the trip. I showed Gary at the boat ramp before we put the boat in how to tie a jig on. This is how much of a green pea he was. And I think I might have created a new Crappie Fisherman in the process!! By the halfway point of the trip he was already learning to cast past a stump and drag a jig right by it! Sometimes its not about how many keepers you get but spending quality time with a good friend on the water.

it doesn't get much better than fishing with a friend, catching is icing on the cake. I bet you had some good laughs and that this week he will be talking about his adventure and new hobby. one of the best parts of owning a boat is taking others who don't get to fish too much.
