    Default Davis Lake...

My wife and I got an opportunity to take a road trip to Davis Lake last week. We wanted to try out a new tent that we recently purchased and check out Davis Lake via kayak. There are no size limits on the crappie and I've heard that they have some trophy bass over there just waiting to jump in the boat...

Turns out that the weather was perfect for camping with the evening temps in the mid 40's, however it was a bit windy for fishing the main lake. The coves were manageable and that is where I spent most of my fishing time. I trolled the banks with road runner jigs until I reached my desired location and then worked a spinner bait all along the banks, brush and submerged trees.

All the stories and tales I've heard about the lake remain just that. Stories and tales. I didn't catch a single fish! The only bites I got were from what had to be tiny fish not big enough to get the jig in its mouth. I didn't see anyone catching fish and only heard that those that did catch fish were tiny bream 3-4 inches long.

What was supposed to be a "kayak fish-a-thon" turned out to be just a beautiful day at the lake. Davis Lake is about 200 acres which is more than enough room for kayaking for exercise or just for fun. Assuming that the day was a fluke, I'll give Davis Lake another try maybe later on in the year.

That' good to know. I've seen photos of 10+ lbs from friends, but guess it wasn't my day. For whatever reason, they must have gone a little deeper that day than I tried. I just thought for sure I had 'em figured out. I'll give it another go later in the season.
