I'll be fishing Kaw most of the day tomorrow. We've met with George. I'll probably launch from Coon creek. See you Jayhawkers on the lake!

It was a somewhat frustrating time. Just knew we would be fishing anywhere on the lake for spawning crappies. Thanks to Dstreet for all his help. He was on a shallow pattern up by the Coon Creek Ramp. It was a early bite but a very good one for males. We started looking on main lake putting in at Osage. WOW it was very clear. We headed North checking water temps and clarity. Fished standing timber as well as rock banks. Just didn't find them. Called Dstreet and he was still slinging them in. Put in at Sarge Creek day 2. Saw Dstreet in his hot spot but the bite was just ending. Tried to duplicate but without much success. Went above Washunga bridge and dipped some shallow trees and cast to the banks. Did catch a few good size females in trees but not much. Headed to the Sarge creek bridge rip rap. Slow trolled them out in 10ft still casting to the shallows. Still not much happening but putting more of those fat females in the well. Went into Sarge creek and the Downscan lit up going over some brush in 17ft. Dropped in jigs/plastic and minner riggs. Woops!!! Caught some of the crappies that Kaw is famous for. Ending up with some pretty nice fish up to 15in. Day 3. Frustrated that we still aren't finding the spawners ,,,,abandoned it. We went to the clear water and looked at brush in the middle of the finger coves down by Osage. That was the trick!! Fishing over tops in 13ft was a excellent bite. All females were just full of eggs. A few had loose eggs. 1st time fishing the Kaw in spring and was well pleased with it. Will be back the last of June. Might find me in one or two of those finger coves. <*)}}}><

It is a bit of a drive to the East, but do you guys know about the Crappie numbers and quality comiing out of Elk City Lake (near Independence, KS). It's a "Pig Pen".
