Default One of my favorite marshes has made a good recovery!

The Big Burns was pretty much devastated after Rita and the fishing there has been tough the last several years (from what I heard). I hadn't fished it much since Rita, maybe 3 times. Well I got word that there were doing good out there so I made a trip out there today. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the water is even after all this rain! Well I had a good day. Went out at 12:30 fished till 6:30. Caught my limit of bass (10) and 3 bream. Here are the pictures.

The 2 best for me today

Any body know what kind of bream this is? I thought it was a goggle eye at first b/c of the mouth but the mouth isn't big enough then I thought chickapin but the mouth is to big for a chick. My best guess is a copper nose bream but I didn't think they had any in this marsh. Looks like a google eye/chickapin cross but I don't think they interbreed? What do yall think?

Nice catch. I have been hearing they been smoking the bass there this year. I miss fishing out there. I use to go before Rita and fill a 70 qt ice chest every trip. I would use a pearl colored tube jig and catch a limit of bass, 30 to 50 sacs, a dozen blue cats and as many goggle eyes and bream I wanted to keep. I would quit fishing once I couldn't close the ice chest. I use to feed a bunch of people back then......Lol. I use to fish Cocaine Lake, Humble, 45, and C Y canals. Those canals in the back hold a lot of sacs. If it would of come back 4 years ago I would of bought a 25 hp instead of a 50 hp outboard. I still have my old 15/42 Marsh Special Alweld in the back yard. I might have to look for a 25 hp next year.

Nice mess of fish Shadow. Congratulations! I think that fish is a female coppernose bream, but I have no proof. It looks a lot like some of the bream we have in our river systems up here. I could be wrong, probably am. Just ask my wife! LOL. But I never have claimed to be a biologist either.

Dwayne I think it's a blue eyed yellow belly greengill. In other words, I don't know either. Looks almost like a female bluegill but it's hard to say. I sometimes think all those bream have a orgy under water and get things all mixed up.

Congrats on the nice catch and glad to hear that the area has come back. We have some areas here that haven't recovered yet and I hope for a decade of no storms.

nice catch Dwyane.....to me, there are 3 types of fish like that.....goggle eye, bream & chinkapin.....that one would fall into the bream category some of which are red bellies & bluegill.....you are lucky to have a 10 fish bass limit.....most of the waters I fish are 7 limit, any size.....
