Let me start off by saying this has been my worst Feb/March of my fishing life. Both bass and white perch. Anyway, having given up on the spawn, I decided to try Spring Bayou out on a post spawn trip knowing the bream may save the day.
Started at first daylight and fished until about 10:00 with only one perch and it was tiny. My old spots were just not right and even the bream I caught were spread out. I was about to leave when I decided to try one more spot that I know very few people try. Started catching immediately. I caught and released 12 before I decided I should at least try to keep a mess. If you're wondering why I waiting that long it's because the size was pretty poor, and I thought the first few were going to be the end.
Anyway, I caught most on chart/pump/chart triple tail grubs. Caught a few on the new Garland Itty Bit swim'r in Cajun Cricket. Total caught was a bit over 30. I kept 13, some of which had small egg sacks. My catch included:
Black Crappie
Largemouth Bass
Bluegill
Chinquapin
Redspotted Sunfish
Goggle eye
Bullhead.
The bluegill were huge, but not together.

That's a nice mess of fish! I don't seem to have a lot of luck getting in on the spawn either due to work schedules and weekend weather. Just catch 'em when you can.![]()
Yep same here ... I missed the major spawn time but did manage a few stragglers here and there .
Nice catch for sure !
nice catch...never seen the spawn...hardly ever see fish......looks like your April started out right.......
Looks like a bunch of nice sac-a-lait to me!
Bullhead is almost like a knucklehead but he lives underwater.
