Not had that problem, usually better #'s with Sickle-vs-Regular hook of same size

Had some jigs made with sickle hooks. Seems like I can't hook them as well as regular hooks with a larger barb. Is it me or has anyone had that problem? I mostly shoot docks

I love red sickle hooks for pitching the banks in the spring. My experience is you can set the hook a little harder because most of the time the hook will be in the roof of the mouth. I have found that a lot of the times when I miss a fish it was actually a little bream. I've foul hooked quiet a few of them setting the hook. I use a 7' rod and maybe this helps.
Sickle hooks is all I pour...#2 and #4 size in Gold and Red. I havent had any issues with hook up since switching from j-hooks.

You can't keep a minnow on them quite often as you lower your line into the water you see the minnow fall off. They need a much better or bigger barb![]()
