It really does depend on where you buy them! I've saw them as cheap as $1.25 per dozen to $1.99 per dozen. Some places give a price break on certain amounts of minnows like Hill's has 3 dozen for $3.50.

Since I don't use minnows I don't know what "average" price per dozen is . Can someone help me out so I can compare, whether it is cheaper to use jigs or minnows? I have been fishing last week and this week and see lots of folks fishing minnows while I long line troll jigs. Granted I spend lots of money on jigs, so my wife says (she is probably right). I know price is gonna vary from what part of NC you are from, so just to help I am from piedmont area. Thanks for any replies in advance.

If you can buy them by weight they are much cheaper. Some stores won't sell less than 1/2 pound but they are about 30% cheaper here if you buy them by weight. Seems to me they are around $1.00 a dozen or less when I get 1/2 lb.
Mark 1:17 ...I will make you fishers of men
Oh my,makes me wonder too.Just how many fish you can catch on the average per. jig.vs. each minnow.

If it was about cost, I'd buy my fish from the store. I would use whatever works regardless of cost.
Minnows now cost 2.99 a dozen at Falls lake on rt 98. {Two gas stations). They have lost my business.

Tell her if she'd have left that last pair of shoes at the store this would never have came up.
OK, joking aside. The up front cost is going to be more with jigs but you catch fish with the jig until you lose it or it tears up. With minnows start up is fairly cheap but you will not average 1 fish for every minnow bought, more so when you get into a school of those nasty 4-6'' white perch.
With jigs you can change the size according to what the fish want, minnows don't appreciate that too much. Minnows have other cost associated with them like bait buckets and aerators.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
