Looking at "Straight Talk" from Walmart .... and comparing it to Verizon no contract plans. Haven't made a decision, yet. Most of what I've learned is that Walmarts plans don't have many phone options (& most are 3G) .... & the Verizon plans have better phones but only 1/2 the data & cost more. I did pick up some literature on both, and it may be that Verizon has a plan that's equal in cost & data to the Walmart setup ... but, I haven't had a chance to read/research that, further.
But, if you can live with a low end phone that's very inexpensive ($20-$60) and the $45/mo plan offers you coverage in your area ... I don't think you can beat Walmart's Straight Talk plan. You can also have a plan that uses your own cell phone & get it converted over to Walmart's plan ... but, I haven't checked that out, since I don't have a cell phone (yet). I'm just looking for a phone/no contract plan deal that's cheap but has coverage in the areas of my travels, since I'll mostly be using it when I'm travelling to a lake (safety reasons) or on the lake (weather & safety & being able to contact my fishing buds that are also on the lake).
I'm hung between buying a ~$20 phone & not being upset if it goes for a swim or I decide to junk it and go for a higher end deal in the future .... or buying a $50-$70 phone & being a bit more upset if it dies or drowns.![]()
I just know I'm not ready to pay $600+ for a phone ... no matter what it can do![]()
And as for Walmarts phones/plans using Verizon towers ... they use whichever mobile/cell towers are in the area, from what I understand. That could be Verizon, Sprint, T-mobile, AT&T, etc. But, don't quote me on that ... that's just what little I understand about this whole cell phone business, from what I've read online.
