    Default Red River

Went to the Red yesterday and started fishing at 1pm. Caught 5 crappie, 2 bass, and 1 turtle by 3:30 when it started thundering. Had to go to the nearest camp and stand on the porch and wait for the hurricane to pass! Caught in 1-5 foot water using anything with orange. I think I'd have caught more if the storm hadn't come through. Males hadn't been fanning much and the 2 female's eggs were very light colored and very firm.

Yes, orange only. I never buy shiners.

What area (pool) of the Red?
has it settled down any or is it still high and muddy?

Put in at St Maurice. Pool #5 ( I think ). Water is only about 6 inches high. Perfect for spawning. It's muddy, but that's the way I like it for catching spawn fish. Puts them shallower.

Skipper, that sounds like a fun trip and a mess of fish to me. Congratulations!

LOL! Didn't mean to sound ugly. Just haven't bought a shiner since my son turned 6 and I taught him to jig.
