    Default poverty point in march

Fished a total of 11 days (2 different weeks) in March..was about as slow as I've ever seen..However, the quality of the fish was about as good as it gets..Finally joined that 3lb club. not to mention me and the good Doc caught two bass over 9lbs in 2 days. Heard from the locals that its the worst the lake has been as far as numbers of fish caught..I'm not sure why the numbers were down this year..reports are too many birds, too many gar and catfish..really would like to hear from the folks on the forum about the reason for the low numbers..Although, i am not complaining. I've made the point my home lake in the spring. i love the place. Maybe it will just be a late bite this year..

There's always been birds and gar and catfish. Probably more to do with yrs of fishing pressure and maybe a couple bad spawns back to back.

I'll be there too can't get enough one of my favorite places to fish and were else can you go and be entertained by the geese and ducks while visiting with the locals while you fish. I really enjoy seeing my fishing neighbors every year.

Lakes go in cycles. PP is fairly new lake and like all new lakes they hit a peak and start going down. Can't wait for Bussey Brake to get re-stocked, it will be another PP.

I haven't fished Poverty Point in 12 years till this March. I've caught as high as 15 on one trip this spring. The size of the fish are outstanding. I will be back next year good Lord willing. I have no idea why the numbers of fish caught are down. Bussey Brake would cycle ever 3 years. The wildlife and fisheries said it was over populated with carp and catfish.Maybe Poverty has some of these issues. Bussey Brake should be a quality lake when it opens back up.

I don't fish the point much myself, it does produce some big crappie and it is loaded with catfish. Don't know about gar, haven't really ever seen many rolling. Who knows why the numbers that are caught is down. I have never even considered birds as a problem but I guess they could be. I do know that except the months of March and April it is very difficult to catch a mess of crappie, used to the fall n winter you would find the crappie in the deep water of the coves and the boats would be stacked in there also, I don't know for sure but I don't think that they have been doing much this past year. Like someone else said I think it's just a cycle the lake is going through.

I'll be glad when bussey opens back up. Maybe some of the people will go over there.
