Thread: Knee Replacement

I have gotta get me a new knee too. Bone on bone and sore all time. My understanding is there is a new procedure where the dr injects some kinda stuff in the knee during surgery that gives an almost pain free recovery. My neighbor had this done and she recommended this procedure. Keeps you off the morphine during recovery.

The surgeon doing mine is doing a new procedure where they take some CT scans of your knee and then send them off to make an exact replica of your knee joint so it fits better. Theoretically there is less bone cutting and less trauma and so there is less pain and a shorter recovery. He is only going to keep me over night in the surgery place. I'm still worried about it though. There is no turning back once they take the old parts out!

I'm 71. I had 1 knee in 1994 , 1 in 2005 and a hip in 2011. I still get around fine, not the mobility that i had when i was young but I'm still out walleye and pan fishing. Just make sure you do your therapy so you maintain your flexibility. Good luck

I had my left one done a year ago. It's not as good as a healthy real knee but it's a lot better than what I had. I had been having trouble with my left knee for 16 years and there was nothing left to do but replace it. The first couple weeks are rough but it gets better the more you use it.
Do the recommended therapy then do some more. Also take the pain meds so you are able to push yourself to do more. Get yourself a stationary bicycle and start with the seat as high as possible and keep lowering it as you get more flexibility in the knee.

I had both hips replaced the old method. When I stand up nakid, You can read MOM. When I bend over, you can read WOW. I never have seen the writing. Mirror cracked.

I have had both hips replaced, back surgery, still have bad back but tired of being cut on, hips work ok but I still have limitations of what I can do. They just don't work like the original one's did but they don't hurt like them either. Now when I go through a metal detector it goes crazy. I asked the lake ranger if I could put a pull bar on the boat ramp to help me get in and out of boat and to keep my balance. It works so well that everyone uses it. I hope your knee surgery goes good so you can get back on the water crappie fishing soon.

They aren't as good as the ones you had but after about six weeks you can do almost anything you could do before replacement. I'm FAT and the worst thing for me is getting on my knees, that hurts a lot!!! Might not be so bad if I wasn't FAT!!!! I can walk a lot better now than I could before replacing my knees and I don't have any problems in the boat. Good luck, and do your therapy and right after surgery don't be afraid to take pain killers!!!!

I've had both mine replaced---not like younger original equipment, but sure beat old worn-out ones. Work hard at rehab and it'll make a world of difference. Take your pain meds.
