Question New Humminbird Helix 5 DI Help

Hey all! I picked up a new Helix the other day and got to try it out yesterday evening. I have a few questions and figured why go anywhere else.
I have my unit mounted on the bow, with the transducer mounted on my trolling motor. For my first question: Is there a setting to get an accurate depth reading? I figure my transducer is about two feet below the surface and when it's reading ten feet depth, my console unit (transducer on the transom) is reading twelve feet depth. I've come to trust my console unit, as this is all I've used in the past five years. If I am stuck adding two feet to what I see on my screen, that's okay, but if there's a way around it, it would be a tremendous help.

For my second question: I turned on my Fish ID, but can't seem to get any silly >0> fish symbols to show up on the 2D Sonar. I see the returns, not always as humps, but I see them, and in split screen, 2D/DI, I can generally figure out the hot spots on the DI are the fish returns on the 2D. I also see my jigs on the 2D, so I get confused and think to myself "nah, those hot spots are probably just my jigs". How can I determine which is a fish and which is my jig without grabbing my rod and moving the jig?

    Thanks,
    Rory

Rwiske; It is best that you read the manual, I know I don't like instructions either but it will tell you everything you need to know like going into advance settings and changing depth on unit and using fishID or arches. Here is the manual site just click on your unit helix then click your di unit. I hope this was a help. If you still have problems post in sonar and electronics forum here and Humminbird-Greg can tell you more. Good luck with your new humminbird Helix they look good. Here is the Humminbird manual site:

RW ... I brought your post over here so that the electronics gurus will see it, and you'll get more replies than on the newbies forum.

I don't know much about HB's, but there should be a keel offset option to correct the depth shown, due to your transducer being 2ft below the surface.

On your jigs showing onscreen, but not any "fish symbols" ... your jigs should be showing up as a continuous line across the screen, but the "fish" should be showing up as "marks" (unless you're sitting still, then they too would likely show up as continuous lines, unless they are moving in/out/through the 2d sonar cone).
If you are sure you have the "fish symbols" option turned on, then I would think that there's no fish within the sonar cone, the sensitivity isn't high enough, or that option has a glitch in its program. There may be other reasons, but I can't think of any right now ... and I'm not HB literate when it comes to their units menu options & controls, so I have to make a judgement call through my experience with Lowrance/Eagle units.

CrappiePappy; That scared me, I thought I was having another one of those senior moments. I didn't know you all could move post from one place to the other.

    Rory,
In the operations manual, look for the Fish ID Sensitivity menu which is found under the Sonar tab in the main menu system. Turn it up to see more and larger Fish ID Symbols.

Under the Setup menu tab, there is a Depth Offset menu. It sounds like you want to set it to +2.0 feet.
