Actually used mine for the 2nd time today in some challenging conditions. The goal for me on the Excel 1860 was first, to get the sound of the trolling motor away from my poles when fishing shallow water. Coincidentally with no wind, the boat with my wife and I, and the motor set to low, pushes us at .6mph. This puts the trolling motor 34 feet away from my front rod tips. I used the terrova to steer. Today, the wind was blowing like a hurricane so I dropped the motor and put it in reverse and used it as a drift anchor, and also used it pushing into the wind assisting the terrova. This allowed the Terrovat to be run at the same speed as on a non-windy day and hopefully didn't make as much noise as running at a high speed. I can't say at this point that it put any more fish in the boat, but time will tell. I'm still using the manual up and down, and at some point I'll probably fall in putting the stern TM down or the Terrova down on the bow, but hey...you ain't living unless your living on the edge.

I did get in some monster hangups and am having trouble negotiating 2 remotes in these moments of disaster. Hopefully I'll get the handle on it before too long. I ain't no Canepole, but I ain't too proud to try to copy his awesome ideas if they happen to be close to my skill level.

RCC, this is why I used a remote control foot pedal control. It is easier to use one foot and one hand during disasters. ha I understand the situation.

The advertised shaft size (1.125 inch) is wrong. The shaft is something between 1 1/8 and 1 3/16. The lock collar fine, but the slip collar too tight. Got to make a spacer of some type.

I just happen to own one of those "ten dolla" motors too. I don't know if I will ever make the motor auto retract, but I'll use it for something.

The other problem I had was in the extreme wind, I sometimes couldn't tell if the motor was off or on or if it was running in fwd or reverse. I think I will add some colored leds to indicate what's going on.
