windy day, no crappie for us
Fished Holiday Lake yesterday, met two guys from the forum there. Dave and Chris, we all picked a windy day to fish. Gotta go when you can though. We finally had enough about 3:00 and left. Had some green fish and a couple pickerel, no crappie or yellow perch. Chris had a couple nice crappie, couple yellow perch and even a trout when we talked to them. They toughed it out, don't know what they ended up with. Water temps were up to 47, this week and next should be great fishing. I think we were fishing too deep for crappie or the perch, wanted to pull some jigs but the wind was too much for boat control and way to fast to drift with it. Every time we found a protected spot, it would switch and blow us off again. Blew both of our hats off, then you got a wet hat. Time to go.

I was in my canoe, paddling or anchored, as best I could. I wanted to drift about, but not with that wind yesterday. Coming back to the ramp, the wind spun me around a couple times, better to go with it than breaking my paddle. There were a few anxious moments on the drive home too. A canoe on a small pickup catches a lot of wind, esp places like the Rte 288 bridge across the James River.
I like the looks of the lake, even though I didn't get to go very far. Clean water (even with all the rain and runoff recently) and plenty shoreline structure. I'm thinking it would be a good camping trip too.

At least you got out. I picture you with your face to the wind, hair flowing, arms extended......"I'm King of World!">
