    Default New Bern 3/8


    Went to New Bern Sunday and fished for a few hrs ( should've stayed home as sick as I was,but my Son wanted to go and I took him). I only caught a dozen or so, but they were really nice fat females. The crappie I caught was in 2-4 FOW and the temp was in the low 50s by the time we left. Caught a couple of Raccoon Perch ( female was still full of eggs, male was spewing that milk everywhere) and 2 green carp.

    I suspect the next couple of weeks up there will be really good in the shallows, assuming we don't get an artic cold blast. Even when I went in slightly deeper water,the fish were on top. Saw one hit the top of a C & c rig about 10" or so under the water.That was a treat.

    Good fishing Jack--sorry you were sick and not feeling good. Our fish up here will probably be shallow like yours in just a few days. I went walking yesterday afternoon on a track around a lake here in Raleigh and saw terrapins out sunning on some logs. The crappie will be right there with them soon. We'll be down your way next Spring to get some of the yellow perch.
