Thread: new to crappie fishing

Welcome to Crappie.com John.... Allways nice to see someone from NY join the crew. There simply are not many of us on here. Especially in the cold winter months.
Even in the warmer months there are only a handfull of us on here. We have been trying to get a group of us together for years with no sucess. I mainly fish between Canandaigua and Seneca River and mostly from a kayak. I like to target Crappie, Big Bluegill, Bullhead and Catfish. There are plenty of good folks on here willing to help. Once again welcome to the Crappie.com family.

We fish Lamoka all the time and take a trip to Muskellunge Lake and that place rocks for crappie----I usually fish a lot of tubes and my brother prefers Minnows

I to fish the finger lakes all summer. Lamoka, Waneta and like to fish the canal in Penn Yan. Like Honeyoye during the week if the wind isn't blowing.

I was born and raised in the Rochester area and lived in the Binghamton area for ten years before moving to North Carolina 44 years ago. While in NY I targeted lake trout. Kept a boat at Watkins Glen and also fished Keuka, Cananduiagua, and Cayuga lakes. Ontario was a cesspool at that time; from what I hear, it is now a prime piece of water.

As a kid, I can recall seeing some very nice crappie (locals called them strawberry bass) that were caught in Fairhaven bay. As best as I can remember some of those fish were quite large. I do know that the bays around Rochester produced some nice crappie also.

If you ever travel south on I-95; I would like to offer you a taste of southern crappie fishing. I am located about 45 minutes east of I-95 in Northeast NC and I now fish almost exclusively for crappie. I am disabled too and have a bit of difficulty getting in and out of my boat, but that doesn't stop me.

My time and boat, and home is open to you should you ever get in this area. I would be honored to give you the experience of crappie fishing on some of our cypress black waters. Just pop me a PM on the details and you're on. Don't worry about your limitations, my crappie fishing friends and I will set up whatever it takes to get you into some mighty fine fishing in some pristine waters. We have the tackle, boats, and time to share.

Thanks so much for the invitation. Don't get around much anymore, haven't driven in six years, so my mobility is limited. But my wife is retiring in the next year or two, and we might spend our winters down south, so I will keep your invitation in mind. And if I ever get down in your area, it would be my pleasure to join you for a day on the water, fishing for crappie. Believe the months of February an March are spawning times in your area?

Appreciate the pics, assume from your screen name that you have experience fishing on Seneca lake? Take it your freezer is full of those huge perch that inhabit Seneca lake. Had the roughest boat ride of my life, running from the north end down to the officers club in a tournament about 25 years ago. Seneca,has the potential to be one of the nastiest bodies of water in bad weather.
