Default Kansas Annual Fishing Netting Results

Hey Guys, I just wondered how much stock you should put in these netting results? For the first time that I can ever remember they have the crappie fishing at Melvern listed as poor this year. Hate to hear that because it has always been my favorite. Do you think that the Zebra Mussels are finally taking there toll? Or do you think that it is just due to the normal up and down cycles that all lakes go through?

Yes and no, if you know the lake and how to fish it there are always fish to be had but I do believe they show the general health of a lake. Good luck!
It's not duck season so I have to do something... :D

I don't pay much attention to how high the values are but rather how the values compare to each other for a given lake. For example Glen Elder. Everyone knows there is a lot of crappie in that lake however it supports a 0.84 or something on the density rating but the 10" and greater fish is like 0.75 or something that tells you of the fish reported in the sampling (8" or greater) 89% were greater than 10" and so on for 12" or greater column. That number is generated by the number of fished sampled per the acreage of the lake (I don't know the exact formula but Craig could tell you).

So if a lake has a density rating of 50 but a perferred rating of 1 and a lunker rating of 0 it's a good indication of a dinksville lake lots of 8" and 9" fish to be had not what I'm looking for but if you want to get a kid on a bunch of fish probably a good lake to take him to.

As far as density of fish it can be hit or miss whether they get a good sample on different lakes. One thing that doesn't lie though is if a lake is getting good samples of large fish. I look at the big fish sample and the lunker rating!

I don't pay much attention to them. It had said good things about Herrington city lake for crappie but I've never done worth a darn for crappie down there, Milford list the biggest blue they netted last year as 10.17# but it's rare that when I'm fishing for big blues it not uncommon to catch several fish in the 20s during a few hours of fishing not to mention the bigger ones that I've caught and seen come out. Last year in one day we weren't finding the fish finally the last two hours we were and we managed a 38, 32, 21, 22, and two 14# blues
