Default Trophy Pond Contest runs through mid-May - tell us about your pond.

Trophy Pond is a new Sponsor here on crappie.com. Let's welcome them aboard. And with Trophy Pond coming on board we get to give away a NEW CONTEST PRIZE. YAY

This prize is a little different. It's a service. The winner will receive a Electrofishing Survey and Management Plan for a pond owner in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, or Mississippi? Due to the the requirement to travel, the contest will be restricted to those states only, sorry.

So the contest goes like this, post here in this thread. Tell us about all about your pond and why you believe you need help with it. Include pictures, and also roughly where in one of the above mentioned states your pond is located. Do not post your address!

This contest will run until roughly Mid May, when I will close the contest and select a winner.

Thank you Trophy Pond. Please visit their website: Tennessee-based Fish Stocking and Pond Management

Electrofishing is the most reliable and efficient method of sampling a fish population. It has been used since the 1950’s by fisheries biologists to gauge fish health and growth in lakes and rivers, and has become the method of choice by most pond management companies for sampling private ponds and lakes.

A brief electric pulse is sent into the water by electrodes that hang from booms at the front of a specially-designed aluminum boat; this pulse stuns fish in the immediate area of the boat, causing them to float to the surface where they can be netted, weighed, and measured, after which they are placed in an aerated livewell until they have recovered sufficiently to be released back into the pond. Only a small portion of the total fish population of the pond is sampled, but from this sample we can extrapolate invaluable data about what species are present in the pond, the current population dynamics among the different species, the overall health and growth rates of each species, and whether there are any diseases present. Electrofishing can also be used as an advanced management tool to quickly remove slow-growing or smaller fish of the target species in order to free up more food for the larger or fast-growing specimens.

An electrofishing survey includes a detailed, comprehensive management plan tailored expressly for your pond or lake, based on the results of the survey, with your angling goals in mind. As part of the survey, we test your pH, alkalinity, oxygen levels, and visibility, and use these parameters to further inform the plan. If weed growth is present, we take photos of it and outline management options in the plan. We visually inspect your dam, watershed, and spillway, and document the quality and quantity of fish habitat. The resultant management plan is presented as a PDF mini-book that is typically twenty-five to thirty pages long and includes full-color photographs that illustrate every aspect of the plan, laid out in order of when each action should be performed. Relative weights are provided for the target species, whether that be largemouth, bluegill, crappie, or smallmouth, to let you see how your fish compare to fast-growing fish in ideal conditions.

Pond owners commonly like to ride with us when we are shocking their pond. It’s a way for you to see firsthand what’s in your pond right now – not to mention it’s a lot of fun! Call us today and let us transform your pond into the dream fishing spot you’ve always wanted!

This contest ends some time in around mid MAY. A winner will be declared in this thread some time thereafter.

we have a nice 6 acre pond . we seem to have topped out on size of fish caught . Largest bass is 7lb. 2 oz . and red ear at 18 oz . Duck moss has to be poisoned yearly or it takes over the pond . since we fertilize monthly during the warm months we know this brings more moss . Thing is can we get or maintain what we have if we don't fertilize ? Help !Name: Video 10 0 00 00-07.jpg

Once upon a time............,my pond was full of water and channel cat, bass, bream, crappie, fat head minnows, shad and numerous sunfish species.
Then, it quit raining and the pond dried up, along with the creek. The lake (Eagle Mountain Lake) is currently suffering a severe drought. If El Nino
happens, all will be restored to its former glory. Until then I will continue to research the Indian ways of rain dancing. I may have found a couple of
good moves and I wish I could remember what they were. Actually caught a little rain recently. If anyone can find a few more steps of the dance, let
me know. I'll try just about anything. The bridge in the background is where my dirt went when they built the bridge. They needed dirt to build the
approaches to each end of the bridge. My pond is 16' deep when full, and it has fed many, many folks some quality fish for years. Need to return to those days.
