Even on the smaller screen imaging units there are options to make fish and structure bigger on the screen ...

*Open a zoom box on interesting items ...
*Set the SI Range to a smaller value to not squeeze so much acreage in the screen ...
*Set the SI to view one side only ...

I just bought a helix 5 di gps yesterday at grizzly jig for the bow of my boat. I wanted the SI unit, but the guy told me that an SI unit works more accurately when moving 3-5mph, so one on the console would better benefit me than one mounted on the trolling motor. I have seen several comments on this post talking about buying an SI unit for their trolling motor, but nobody has said anything about it not working to its full potential like the fella at grizzly said. Any insight would be appreciated before I mount this unit. I had intentions to later purchase the Helix SI unit and put it on my console, and run just the DI that I bought yesterday on the bow. But if I can get away with an SI unit up front, that's what I want

If this is your first Si unit I would recommend a console installation as well, at least until you become more familiar with how the Si sonar works and what it is showing you. Si on the trolling motor and using it at less than 3 mph works but you need to be able to understand what it is that the unit is showing you first. You will not get the same pretty internet type posted pictures but it will work.

What if you don't have a console? Like me. I've thought about maybe mounting the ducer on and old troller shaft and just mount it up front and drop it in when I put my troller in. I could also leave it in and idle around with my outboard.

Sure, that would work. This would also help when you are using the trolling motor as the Si transducer would not be turning right-left with the trolling motor.
I believe that there is someone on Crappie.com who makes a mounting bracket that would work for this.
