    Default Weedless Marabou Crappie Jigs

Anybody ever tried weedless marabou jigs? These are a few i tied up. I love the spinner with the weedless. Weedless is the way to go. I get tired of having to tie on everey 5 minutes with nonweedless jigs. What you guys thing?

Those look good! I have never been a fan of weedless jigs, I guess I haven't had the need where I fish.

Welcome to the site and board! I never cared for weedless jigs even though fish in a lake that was a National Forrest before it was flooded! I use Roadrunners in the spring in 1/32 size and if I get hung up, just go back and pop it right off the stump. It's just not that big of an issue for me. In summer I fish brush piles and if I loose a few it's just not a big deal, but I really don't loose many jigs. I do know that I do not even want to tie any weedless jigs! Just my opinion though and I know lots of guys like weedless jigs, just not me.

BTW I notice you have paint all over the swivel, most of use when painting a spinner type jig will either cover it with tin foil or some other method to keep the blade free.

I use them fairly frequently if I am fishing deep thick brush piles and casting to and retrieving jig back through them. I modify them by removing all but 4 to 5 bristles with my fingernail clipper before fishing them. I hook most fish that hit with this setup. If I used all the weedguard I found that I missed many strikes. Also my retrieve speed is very slow. One handle revolution every four seconds or so. The jigs I use use the Do-it Y-9 weed guard and size 2 hooks. I fish them on 4# Solar Fireline and lose very few.

Welcome from Middle Tennessee. Nice looking work. I use the weedless heads with plastics this time of year and don't miss many fish at all. I also lose very few jigs to the trees, a big contrast to regular heads. I'm using 1/8 and 1/4 though and I'm sure the extra weight helps compress the guard compared to the lighter heads. I don't have the patience to tie around the guard but a retired friend does some for me and does a very good job with it. DrDore is his name and pics are a challenge for him but I'll try to get a pic of his work sometime later. I like your ties and thanks for sharing them with us.

skeetbum I cast my jigs without the weedguard in them. I put a 1/16" dia piece of hook shaft in the mold instead of the weedguard. I then paint and cure the heads. Before I tie them up I open the hole up with a 1/16' drill bit in my dremel tool. This goes very fast and is easy to do. When I tie the jig and finish the wrap I place the weedguard in the hole and seal it in with the same finish I put on the wrap. In my case it is usually uv cure clear goo on wraps and weedguard. This works very well for me.
