Thread: Bluegill Flies I Tie And Fish

hmmm, never thought about using wine corks to hold my flies and jigs. guess I will have to pop a few more bottles so I have plenty of corks

Gill fisher,You tie very well. I tie commercially you re in the in the top 10 percent. Only thing is insects have 6 legs. Most patterns should have 6 rubber legs. The fish do not cars nor do I but some may look down upon the fly. Honestly I do see a difference but my client do. Great job I also like the gills on top.

Thank you very much, Sir! I appreciate the kind words, and thanks for the tip on the 6 legs. I usually tie only for fishing and fly swaps, but I'll keep your suggestion in mind if I every tie commercially.

He just called it a "Hair Bug" and the closest thing I could find as a pattern was a Griffin Gnat which is what I tie.
When I do fish below surface I have a Hellgrammite pattern that I learned in an Orvis fly tying class years ago. Lots of fun catching Bream and an occasional Bass on a Fly Rod. I am not a purist, far from it. I never really got into all the nuances that went with trout fishing, just enjoy the pond fellows.
