    Default Lake Overholser

I know lake O may not be on your hit list for crappie fishing, but suprisingly the months of April and May can be really good there. I am just having trouble the other 10 months of the year. Anyone else fish Lake O and have any advice? When the spawn is on they can be caught pretty much anywhere in the rocks 1-2 ft deep.

My friend was slaughtering them in the creek that runs along the lake to the East side of it last October.

I've never really fished this lake other than one time. Are the crappie good in size???

Ive tried the river your talking about and never had any luck. I usually have good luck in the main lake on the west and sw sides, but only during the spawn. as far as size goes youll catch 10 8" for every 1 thats 10" plus but ive caught quite a few in the 12-14 range over the past few years.

Yeah that's the problem with OKC area lakes. This year I'm making the drive to bigger crappie producing waters. I about shipped my pants seeing the 2 lb + crappies at winter camp!

Nip, was it the size of the crappie at winter camp or the combo of chili, skeeter and firewood? 😆

You can get them in the winter off the dock on the West side, but it's pretty much hit and miss, and you are more likely to get a mess of sandies. We usually hit the riprap on the east side during the spawn. Some years, we have killed 'em, including some 2- 2 1/2 pounders, but that's a rare year. About ten-twelve years ago, my friend Ken hooked a monster that was under a projecting concrete slab, where we had caught a lot of very nice fish. He thought it was a largemouth bass when he first hooked it, but as he pulled it onto the slab, he and my other friend, Bryan, could see it was a crappie. Of course, the line broke, and the fish was gone. Ken could sometimes exaggerate and he said it was at least three and a half. Bryan usually could guess weights very accurately, and he said it had to be five pounds. I suggested that it probably WAS a bass, but they said no. We fished that slab every day for the next two weeks or so, but got nothing over two.
Some years, the best bite is at the East side boat ramp or at the south end of the bay in front of it.
Also, there are a couple of guys who go up the river, one in a kayak and one in boat. They always come back with a nice stringer, but are secretive about just how far up they go.

Bwahahahaha! I don't even remember chili and firewood! I haven't drank that much in one night in 20 years and after that night I remember why I don't drink that much. 2 bottles of my skeeter and I'm done. I think I had 7 skeeters that night! I knew I needed to shut it down quick, fast and in a hurry when what I was saying wasn't even making sense to me! Luckily I made it back to the cabin. I know this affected my fishing game the next day.
