Default Trouble shooting Lowrance 5HDI Issue

The Lowrance 5HDI on my buddies boat has recently stopped working. When we power up the unit, the Lowrance logo flashes on the screen and then it goes black. We checked the battery terminals and connections for corrosion and removed any that was present. Rechecked the connection at the display unit and the transducer and they look fine. What could enter problem? Do you think the issue is with the display, transducer, or something else. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Low battery voltage would be my first guess.

We have tried hooking it up to a new freshly charges battery with the same outcome. I forgot to mention previously that after the screen goes blank, the buttons still beep when you press them. I don't know if that helps anyone. Is it a possibility that something is wrong with the power cord and that is causing the voltage to drop between the battery and the unit?

Do a soft reset. You won't lose info that way. A hard reset loses your stored info like waypoints and your setup preferences. If that doesn't work, call Lowrance technical support.

Hey Matt, try this. Turn on your unit and wait for the Lowrance logo to go off. When the screen turns black, tap the power button quickly a few times. You may have the brightness turned down to much and tapping the power button adjusts the brightness. I've done this before, and it does exactly like what you described.

    Try this Before the reset.

I think this is the problem. I have had the same thing happen to me. It only takes a couple of clicks and the screen will be dark. This would be what I tried first. Before I tried anything else.......crappie1133
