I don't think it's common practice, just don't think some people care.
I had I guy come and fish the same lay down I was fishing once because he seen I was catching fish out of it.

Went to Jordan to get more experience with my new Minn/Kota and Hummingbird 899 DI/SI Combo. I must say I really like the Anchor Lock function on the Rip/Tide. Once I figured out that you had to go past the spot and then engage to Anchor Lock, it held us within about a three foot circle of the spot. If i'd read the instructions I might have known that. But hey what real man reads instruction?
I'd like to say that my bird functioned in the same fashion. It might have, IF I'd remember to bring it !!! yep, left it warm, safe, and comfortable right in the garage. Without the aid of a depth finder we non the less proceeded to an area I'd fished before in the S-Curves. We managed to catch a number white perch and crappie still in deep water 28-30 judging the depth by counting down. Had a great time.
Now the Circus part... down about 300 yards from us a couple who we've met on the lake were fishing. I seen the action along the 64 bridge with everyone fishing on top of each other, but nothing's topped this. Now remember the couple we met are staying in one small area fishing suddenly, another boat comes within spitting distance of them and they proceed to start fishing. Really.....28,000 plus square acres of Lake and you have to be right there! I could have understood if they were friends, but they weren't .... . Just need to know from you who fish Jordan alot is this normal ?

I thank that happens everywhere. Has happened to me several times. I've got to where I just try to enjoy there company and strike up a conversation. Not much else ya can do besides be upset about it and that makes for a bad day fishing. I don't like it one bit but have learned a few things from it at the same time.
It never fails. A lot of people will fish a spot for 2 minutes and think there's nothing there and as soon as you catch 1 they think that's the hot spot. I dealt with this for years in WV trout fishing. They would either get on top of you and even cast over your line or when the stock truck arrived you better believe there was a half dozen trucks following it. My wife thinks I'm crazy but I hope for terrible weather when I go out. Nothing will keep people off the water faster than a little snow and cold weather.
Was fishing Bush Creek one time (long-line trolling), when a ski boat pulled 20' in front of me. Guy grabs ski, jumps off back of boat and tells his wife, " Hit It!" ! What a jerk!!! Stay on the water enough, long enough, you see all kinds!!!

In the yak, the ones that really get my goat are the bass boats who pass me when I am obviously in transit, stop a really short distance in front of me and then glare at me if I don't go way around them.

That is just unethical! We were fishing a tree that had in down and there were at least them of them in two coves and he pulls on run's over a cork with a minnow on it and starts fishing the tree we was on. Then we move and with in ten minutes here he comes again, this time his boat bumps mine. I ask him in what was he doing with all these tree in water, why bother us fishing. He said he had been fishing this lake for 30yrs and so on. Words and warning were expressed and so on and he moved. Some people have "NO ETHIC"

Sterkat, that happens when I bank fish, pier fish, and surf fish. In some cases they fish over me deliberately to try to make me leave, so that they can try to take my spot. Sigh. But I hang in there. To fish takes patience in more ways than one. Flatfoot.

On the issue of bass boats and kayak encounters, when I am in transit near shore and a boat is coming toward me beating the bank under power (trolling motor) I do try to give them plenty of room to continue fishing. It annoys me that some of my paddling brethren try to go ahead and exert right of way (technically a boat under power should give way to one that is paddled). If someone on the boat casts out to the deep side making it a larger obstacle to go around, I sometimes will speak up, especially this time of year. I stay close to shore in transit whenever I can for safety reasons when the water is cold. The message here is that if you are beating the bank under power and a kayak is paddling toward you, if you smile, wave and tell them you don't mind if they pass close by on the deep side it can be a better experience for all concerned...
