    Default Rocky River 1/30

Thanks to the reports provided by Stump Hunter earlier this week, Stanley, Stanley's neighbor Paul, and myself travelled to Rocky River today to drown a few minners. Water temps were a chilly 46-47 deg. Wind blew like a banshee all day. I'm thinking when the forecast is for 10 mph, they really mean 20. Anyway, we managed a mix of crappie, white perch , and even a few yellow perch. Probably caught 60 fish total (it was too cold to count). Like Stump Hunter said, they wanted the minners right on the bottom. We used bottom rigs and concentrated on depths of 40-45 ft. Several of the fish we caught were spitting up 1-2 inch thread fin shad. I imagine they are starting to die off at the current water temps. Stanley caught 3 or 4 on a jigging spoon, but minners (dead or alive) seem to be preferred. Here's a couple of pics and a cooler shot.

Nice catch, good to see y'all got on them. I was talking to Marty yesterday morning at the One Stop and he said they got into some nice yellow perch a couple weeks ago. Good eating fish and always a welcome fish in my boat

That is a good mix of good eating fish. I ate Yellow Perch in a restaurant in Ohio and they were delicious. Much larger than we catch here. I found out they are first cousins to the Walleye, which is also excellent table fare.
    Congrats in a good day.
