It will read 800 khz with the HDSI ducer not the compact ducer that comes with it, you can upgrade ducer at Humminbird and swap out the new unused one if you wish. I have the HDSI ducer on mine but in my opinion you dont need it unless your fishing deep deep water.

I hardly ever fish more than 20 feet of water. Will the transducer that I receive be ok for my type of fishing?

It will be fine in my opinion it is a charge of 70 to 90 bucks to upgrade to HDSI. Save your money.

It comes with an extended 3 year warranty for $84. Should I get that or does Humminbird have it's own warranty?

Humminbird offers 1 year free, when you register yours on Humminbird site sign up for Humminbird Select membership free membership they will extend your warranty for another year free. That is 2 years free, I wouldnt buy the extended myself.

Humminbird rep told me he fishes 60 ft water and uses 455 kHz on his unit.
