What unit you use?
I have a Humminbird and I use Humminbird PC to view all points and make changes there. Easy to save as a different file and edit and then open again with H-PC. Make any other changes and save to card again. Simple with a program.

I have too many to type edit wpts. I used OZI, Excel, and Word Pad and got good results.
It is a multi step process, but not hard to figure out. Conversion works good too. Nothing here to do except piddle anyway.
Haven't tried results out yet, but I am sure it is ok. Lat and Lon are correct per waypoint.
1. Import wpts from GPS into OZI
2. Save gps wpt as txt file from OZI
3. In Excel, select Data import, check comma (delimited) box, then import the txt file
4. Use auto renumber and Excell renumbers, I started numbering at 1000 to ensure all wpts have 4 digit numbers
5. After renumber, save as csv text file
6. import the saved csv file (import text file) into Word pad and save
7. imported Word text file into OZI as import text file
8. Save this in OZI and save wpt file
9. Import OZI wpt file into on line GPS visualizer
10. Convert and save converted file to your preferred GPS type file.
CYA…I saved the original waypoints.

I have a collection of waypoints that have never been edited since 2002. I have Garmin and Lowrance GPSs of different vintage. I have had HBs also.
HB PC will not auto renumber from scratch. No easy way to renumber by editing with any waypoint manager that I know of.

Your right. It will not do multiple at once!
Here's something you can try, find your .gpx file and right click it and then click on "open with" and then find notepad and select it. You can uncheck the box that makes this the default opening program for now. Once open you can find your wpts by doing a "find and replace" from the menu. Just type in the first few letters or numbers of your points and then type in what you want to change it to then just keep clicking next till done. You can make it to what you want and leave the numbers at end to help manage them.
I am able to change mine to the first three letters of each lake I was on and then the number. Just save the file as "*.gpx" and not as a .txt file. You can save it as a new file if you like and then see how it looks before you load it up.
Hope you find something.

Tom, If you D/L someone elses waypoints into the Lowrance, it will end up with several that have the same number. I have separate files saved on my PC, so using the method you speak of above, I can combine them and they will all renumber so I don't have doubles anymore?

Great subject! Working on this myself. Been playing around with Ozi for other reason (used Ozi and another program to overlay USGS maps before and after lake was built to find old structures and get GPS coords.), but will try mentioned method for waypoints.

How is the OZI program? I have an older Lowrance I wanted to pull the way points off of and this would work however I don't want to spend $140 for all the map software just to do a one time download before I toss out my unit..
Have you ever tried Reefmaster? Looks like a good program. Waypoint management and underwater mapping software for Windows PC.
