Thread: Skip, Fatman & you guys that have fish muddy water

Surprisingly I have done well with a yellow/white jig in very muddy water but I still tend to use more fl orange & red in muddy water mixed with chart in the jig. Never had any luck using gray in muddy water. Now I'm not talking stained water, I'm talking "muddy". Forgot to say an all black jig also works.

For me Gray is more of a clear water to stained water color. Black is always a gewat color for muddy water as it is at night for Bass. My favorite spring color for crappie in really stained water to muddy water would have to be Hot Orange on my little Roadrunners. Often I think guys over look Blue too as it and Violet are the last 2 visible colors in clear water done for test. Meaning in Crystal clear water the last colors that show up are Blue and Violet at 40' away. Other drop out much faster and if I think of it in that way I have to also think it along with Black are really good choices for stained water and that is very true! Also not so sure about muddy water, but a great clear water color combo is Silver/Blue/White, but also really can be very good in stained water! See pocture below as there are some of my favorite color combo's and also because it has my favorite muddy type water bait in spring for sure!

Let me start by saying the bottom 2 are more if I can see my jig 3' down! Next #2 is the very stained water color I have been talking about. Of course the Charg and Black as well as the #4 down are super stained water colors and that to me means say from being able to see my jig at least a foot down and up until I can see at least 3' down. This doesn't mean that once you can see the jig 3' down it stops working as they do not, but just feel I get more bites if I change to more natural colors like Silver/Silver/FL Blue once the water is more clear. Also the 3rd one down is one that shouldn't be over looked as it can be absolutely great too!

No such thing as clear water here. Learned the hard way it's hard to beat all black when the mud is thick.

Yeah black always with muddy water but chartreuse and orange work okay too. Black/blue is an old standby.

For a black/gray this is one I use
