    Below is a link to a page that list these. It is not the place I'll be buying. I can get these for about $115.00 each. Looking to replace the interstate 27's I have. they are at least 5 years old.
    Would there be a reason to not use one as a cranking battery? All my electronics and livewells are hooked up the the cranking battery so I do not want to run it down. The current Interstate 27 is a Deep Cycle used as a cranking battery with no issues. Based on the specs it sounds like a great deal. Menard's can special order them so they should be new and if I time it right I might get an additional 11% off. Also these will be going into a 98 BassCat Sabre with a Merc 150EFI. The 27's are a pretty tight fit. Is there a big difference in footprint? I want to stay with a flooded battery.

    So anyone ever used them??

    I wouldn't use a deep cycle for starting purposes. Deep cycle batteries are meant to put out power over an extended time, while starting batteries are meant to put out power quick and heavy. Some even say that Mercury manuals specify not to use deep cycle batteries for starting, especially on Verados, because they may not deliver enough power to make the motor fire. Then others say they've used deep cycle batteries to start their outboards without problems.

    I'd ask "CatFan" his opinion ... he's very knowledgeable when it comes to batteries

    Better break out the tape measure. There is a little difference in ft print on 31 vs 27. Not big but big enough if it is already tight.

    Thanks guys,
    I will open the back and measure. I understand the Deep cycle versus Starting or Dual purpose, but the motor needs 630 MCA or 490 CCA. This battery far surpasses that and I like to night fish with the lighting (LED) wired to the starting battery along with the graphs, so I thought I might be better off. I could save $40.00 and get a Dual purpose or true Starting battery, but am afraid of running it down.

    EFIs are pretty easy on batteries, so you don't have to lean toward a dual purpose battery. But there are dual purpose 27s that have the same RC as a deep-cycle 27. The Interstate 27M-XHD is one that I can think of off the top of my head.

    There is a difference in footprint if you go to a 31. The 27 is 12-1/16"L X 6-13/16"W X 8-7/8"H while the 31 will be 13"L X 6-13/16"W X 9-7/16"H. And you really can't count on there not being some kind of ridge or bump sticking out of the battery making it a little bigger than nominal dimensions.
