I wouldn't use a deep cycle for starting purposes. Deep cycle batteries are meant to put out power over an extended time, while starting batteries are meant to put out power quick and heavy. Some even say that Mercury manuals specify not to use deep cycle batteries for starting, especially on Verados, because they may not deliver enough power to make the motor fire. Then others say they've used deep cycle batteries to start their outboards without problems.
I'd ask "CatFan" his opinion ... he's very knowledgeable when it comes to batteries![]()
