    Default Muddy river fishing

My buddy and I hit the NW yesterday. I noticed the muddy water as soon as I pulled in the parking lot. We did not leave VA and only found one place where the water wasn't too bad. We caught a 20-pack mixed bag of crappie, YP, bluegill, flier, pickerel and bass. Nothing to really write home about. The fish preferred minnows over jigs today and most were caught right on the bottom. By the time we left the water was starting to resemble chocolate milk everywhere.

Muddy water is very hard to fish I always try to move closer to the mouth of the river it seems to be better there. and then there's just SOME rivers or creeks that just don't get muddy I don't care how hard it rains I try to keep them in the back of my head and fish their when we have had lots of rain. Good Luck. Speck

at least you got out. I have been in dry dock, was sick for about three weeks, working late and every Saturday. I hope to be getting out next weekend. But as my luck goes the weather will be in the trash can.

Good job, Kevin. I fished NW for 4 hours the day before, Saturday, and did worse--10 bites: 8 fish in the boat, 2 dink YP thrown back. I brought home 4 YP, 1 crappie and 1 LMB. I had to scratch hard to come up with dinner. The water was very muddy on Saturday, too. I fished all over from 5' to 16' deep.

I remember years ago after a hurricane going fishing on the chick. I've never seen the chick muddy. Maybe down around where it connects to the James or the feeder creeks but i don't fish that far downriver. The lake part also stays clean except for all the vegetation in the warmer months.

Thanks, Woody. That is good to know for when things get stirred up.

when waters muddy i always have my best luck on solid black marabou jigs- i usually step up from my favorite 1/32 to a 1/16 or even 1/8
My wife swears I only do enough surveying to support my hunting & fishing because I'm too busy hunting & fishing !
