Default Lake Conway Dummy Needs Help

been fishing the deeper areas around 89 bridge for a few months and doing decent (under the bridge, stump areas on both sides, open area on south side, etc.). they seemed to have moved out of the area over the last 2-3 weeks. since it has gotten colder, I would have thought they would stay in the deep water area, maybe suspended at 6-8 ft., or possibly right on the bottom.

could some of you help educate me why they no longer seem to be in the area and provide a bit of insight on where they would migrate to since all the near water areas are shallower than the bridge area. makes no sense to me, but I am not a good crappie fisherman to begin with.

not looking for your secret "honey hole", just some help understanding why they would not be in the deeper water area.

I am no expert but I do know that where ever the shad are, the crappie are. With the freeze that we got last week, it would not surprise me if there was a threadfin shad kill and the crappie were busy gorging themselves on half dead shad. Easy pickins for predators like crappie. I am hoping to check things tomorrow. I will post a report of what I see.

thanks Matt, it never entered my mind that the freeze might kill the shad and the crappie could gorge it up and not give us a bite. I went out this morning and there was almost no shad skimming the surface and the ducks and white birds were hunting but not finding.

I spent a couple hours at the 89 bridge today and the shad are in there thick. Only saw a few fish caught all by the "sportsmen" on the bank. Most were snagged and I did see a few kept that were WAY under the 10inch min. Really would LOVE to see an officer post under that bridge and watch a couple of hours.......... Makes me sick

I totally agree Tony. I have mentioned it on the earlier thread about the new length requirement that the dudes under the bridge keep dinks continuously. If no one is going to monitor that group, then to check anyone else on Conway would be a joke.

the guys that would monitor that are the same guys that allow the unmarked yoyos and limblines to hang with dead fish on them year round dont expect allot to happen , but maybe when duck season os over we will start to see some officers enforcing new rules , ive seen lots of short fish being kept also but only when lots of folks start getting ticketed for the violation will this slow down

you are right and it is a shame for both the violators and the enforcers.

well, went back to 89 area today and, as usual, one dude fishing from the bank next to the tiers (not everyone) was snagging em and keeping shorts. he kept at least 7 shorts he snagged, even after I reminded him of the 10" rule
