They look fine, good job! I have to ask though are you tying in the marabou in with the stem still in? I usually do not have a stem in my marabou except for maybe 5% of the time as only if the stem is so very thin will I use it. I take he barbules off the stem a bit at a time and stack it until I get enough for my tail. Then I pinch it to the length I want and cut the rest off from the end I pulled off the stem. Never cut tips! Anyway that is mostly how fly tiers use it and where I learned much of what I know. There was not all the easy to find info out there wheni started tying. Thankfully for a couple of fly tying sites I learned a lot from reading their lessons and just all I could find.

Thank You for the help !! I have not been tying in the stems I have been tring to use just the top half where there is little or no stem.. I will give your way a shot tomorrow ..Still having difficulties keeping the Marabou on top of the hook It seems to want to spin on the hook ..

I watched a video somewhere that gave the advice of wrapping a couple of turns of thread loosely around the maribou then pulling it tight to keep it from rotatating around the hook. It works pretty good for me.

The easies way for me is I tie it in and start wraps away from the head and once I get as far back to the bend as I am going, that is when if needed I will rotate the marabou back in place. Then I will use pressure from my finger to hold it there and start wrapping back to the head. I do use tight wraps all the way, but can adjust at the back end before coming back to the head and once back to the head it's not moving any more! All other little way will work too I am sure, but I use less time my way as it's a fast adjustment. I also try to press the marabou around the hook shank when I first tie it in, sometimes this doesn't really work well, but I don't see it as a problem either way.

Oh and save all your tips and they should be great for a little less action type tail that is short kind. I have bags of tips and will use them at some point, but so far just save them. I will tie something soon using just tips and show a picture here.

Your jigs look dang good. The fish are gon eat em up.
As far as the marabou. That's how I tie em. There is no stem in them. Also, there is no "right" way, only preferred ways. But if you want validation of any which way, watch some you tube videos. You'll see 1,000s of diff ways.

Absolutely there are not hard and fast rules in tying, but there are great go by rules fly tyers use all the time and why their work looks like it should. There may not be a "Right Way", but there are better ways over some others and you should use what works for you! All I try to do it share what I do and if that is not for you then so be it, but if it helps then I say good! I can not in good conscience tell you how to do something that is not like I do it. So take all I say as what I do and not necessarily the only way or even the "Right" way, LOL!

Oh and make sure to know that just because something is on youtube doesn't make it right or even good! I know guys have started tying and within a few days were making videos for youtube and at the same time telling guys the wrong way. If you use lessons from a place like FAOL then you know your getting the best info out there! That I am sure of! As stated their in not really a right or wrong way, but there are better ways than some and for sure some of the videos out there on youtube! There are also some great videos on there and really you just have to decide on each if it worth your time or not! Check out some of the videos on there made by Loon.
