Thread: first jigs

Also, what method of adding heat are you using. That may help us help you if we knew which technique you were using. Some folks use a heat gun, others a butane torch, I personally use an alcohol burner.

Anyway, keep painting, tying and experimenting. There is nothing like the feeling you get the first time you catch a fish on one of your own creations. When you do, do that. Cut the jig off of your line and put it someplace safe, as far as your first catch on your first jig. Do not give in to temptation and try to catch another one with it. Chances are you will find the one underwater willow tree in that lake and loose your jig.

I work on some spinner and plan jigs I had did this this am and I think they came out good.
I not to sure how your'll do your but I see this done some time ago.I try the tinfoil.

Looking good we heat the jig head(count to 10)(1/8 oz)( smaller jig heads less 7-8) dip in powder paint after dipping in powder paint we like to run through heat one more time gives it the smooth glossy look(you will see powder smooth out around jig head!!If not run through heat a little more till you get the look you want. Then dip in a jar of water when you hear it sizzle in the water the paint is attaching to the lead or jig,blade,spoon ect!!As it cools with the water!! it is ready to fish or put in oven for more drying/ curing time!!!

I'm like a week into this so I'm no expert by any means... but I've learned in the past week by trial and error... of course... Haha...that a heat gun is the only way I will go from now on.... I turn the heat gun on high and rotate them over the heat for maybe 8 seconds and dip it real quick and knock it off and reheat again for 5 second dip it once more knock it off and return to heat for maybe 3 seconds then dip them in water and they look great! I do this with 1/16 jig heads!

Alcohol burner and fluid bed makes a persons life a bunch easier and cuts the learning curve down big time...I had a batch of pink a while back that would do that at times I just had to add a second or two more heat to get them to come out smooth.

I use alcohol burner too. Cheaper than electricity for heat gun.

Poured and painted several thousand jigheads on this one bottle!!Still going!! Turn down as low as you can get without going out!! Last a long time!! Have the alcohol burner and heat gun also!!
