    Default New Fishfinder Opinions


    Looking at upgrading my Electronics currently have a Humminbird 997 si and 798 si . Thinking I'm either going to get the Hbird 999si and keep the 798si on Bow or Upgrade to the new Garmin 93SV OR 94SV with a smaller Garmin on Bow . I really like the Garmin unit's and the new Maps but have always been a Humminbird guy since the first 3D wide unit I purchased back in early 90's any thought's or suggestions would be appreciated

    If the 798 SI is the "HD" model ... It will Ethernet with the 999ci HD SI Combo ...

    Its the 798 ci si not the HD . I used to have them linked with the Interlink system but it went bad and I never fixed it as I knew I was going to to Upgrade .

    You may think about a future expansion adding a HB DI unit (x59 DI series) to the 999ci HD SI Combo you are deciding on ...

    This would give you "Dedicated DI" at the bow ... And the ability to see the transom SI with the new "Sonar Sharing" software available for the xx9 series units ...

    Thanks for the reply Rnvinc I have thought about that also but to be honest I have a Garmin 550c that I use on a kayak and Jon boat that see's more fish then my 798 or it seems to anyway even with the HD transducer that's why I'm thinking of Jumping ship to Garmin and giving them a try . I would end up buying 2 units if I went Garmin but the price would be close since the 93 SV is about $300 cheaper then the 999si . I really love the Hbirds but Garmin really has got my attention lately .

    Rumor around that Garmin is coming out with new finders plotters and are supposed to be best ever out there. Not sure just heard, live not far from plant have a contact there but he is tight lipped about it just says it will be awesome.

    The one I am looking at is a 2015 model and wont be released till first quarter so hoping feb or early march.

    I pre ordered a garmin 73sv the other day and called garmin about release. The guy told me expect it the week of Feb. 15
