There is a new contest up to help clean our waterways. Here is a link to that thread.
http://www.crappie.com/crappie/conte...arbage-picked/
I had read a post by canebreaker down on the Mississippi board and he had written that he keeps a bucket in his boat to hold the trash he comes across while fishing. I thought this was a great idea and wanted to start doing the same. If you are out fishing, you never have to come home empty handed. As many of as as there are on crappie.com, we should be able to pick up hundreds of lbs of trash in a years time. When you see something floating, just reach out with the net and scoop it up and put it in a bucket for proper disposal. Some peoples net needs to get wet from time to time and this would be a good way to get that done if you don't use it for fish catching purposes
Sooooo, pick up some trash, win some prizes, you'll look good to other fishermen (you know that just because they ain't staring you down, that they still are checking on your fishing), you'll look good to enforcement if checked, and you'll feel good at the end of the day. The environment will thank you as well.

nice post!!
It is a very good cause.
The water sure could use some help! I have had a couple buckets in my boat for years, but one just hold my handy stuff and the other usually a couple tie up ropes, but some trash can go right on top for a while. It really gets under my skin when I see just junk people throw over like it was their trash can!
Since I live on the water I am always pulling stuff out of the water when it hits my shore. Can be anything from life jackets to just plastic crap! Even some wood I will pull out at times. Of course every once in a while someone's jug will float in.
I agree Skip! What ticks me off the most is watching people who SMOKE and they throw their damn butts in the water like it's no big deal!!! I just want to strangle them when I see it!! They don't realize the material in the butts is more dangerous than regular trash for the lakes. They are just nasty!
I always pick up trash every time I go out. Some on the water and some near the water. Lots of lazy inconsiderate people out there and this is a great way to get some trash picked up! I have been snapping pictures left and right now each time I find some!
Granger has a "GrangerGang" of local fisherman that hold a spring cleanup. This year we filled enough trash bags to fill the back of two trucks. I use my rear live well when I'm out as a trash can to keep my trash from flying into lake and always pick up anything I see floating and throw in there. Empty on the way out.

I guess the stuff I hate most is plastic bags and who knows what else. Also people leaving trot lines in and just leave them even some baited! Sorry for extra subject!
its up to the real anglers to keep our lakes and rivers clean
