    Default Clean our waterways contest.

There is a new contest up to help clean our waterways. Here is a link to that thread.

    http://www.crappie.com/crappie/conte...arbage-picked/

I had read a post by canebreaker down on the Mississippi board and he had written that he keeps a bucket in his boat to hold the trash he comes across while fishing. I thought this was a great idea and wanted to start doing the same. If you are out fishing, you never have to come home empty handed. As many of as as there are on crappie.com, we should be able to pick up hundreds of lbs of trash in a years time. When you see something floating, just reach out with the net and scoop it up and put it in a bucket for proper disposal. Some peoples net needs to get wet from time to time and this would be a good way to get that done if you don't use it for fish catching purposes

Sooooo, pick up some trash, win some prizes, you'll look good to other fishermen (you know that just because they ain't staring you down, that they still are checking on your fishing), you'll look good to the AGFC if checked, and you'll feel good at the end of the day.

    Thanks for the contest Slab

I think instead of a fishing tournament at our camps, we should have a clean the lake day. Sure would fit in with the C.C theme of betterment of our sport.
We only sell the Best. Ranger, Xpress, Yamaha, Suzuki, Tohatsu.

I don't keep a bucket in my boat, but for years now we've picked up trash when we encounter it. I'd have to give credit to my wife for getting us started on it though. She gets upset when she sees it.

Why not take that a step further Bill?? How about a special prize in our tournaments for the person that picks up the most trash?

I normally stuff my paper products in my rod box and then smash my water bottles so they won't blow out. At the end of the day, I put my smashed water bottles in a 5 gallon bucket in the back of my truck so I can put them in the recycle bin at home. Products I can't recycle, I put in a plastic bag and dispose of when I get home. And anytime I'm fishing, I use my dip net to scoop up trash as I approach it.

Myself and a group of friends once got a "ticket" on the Current River for our trash bag. Those enforcement officers look in our bag and told us most of that trash was not ours and they appreciated us doing the right thing and cleaning up the river. We got a really nice citation for that and their appreciation has stuck with me for 24 years!

Why did they give you a ticket for picking up litter?

This thread reminds me of the dedicated crappie.com folks who volunteered their time and helped picked tornado debris out of Lake Conway. I can't figure out how to link that post to this one, but I did find some pictures. Thanks again guys!

Matt, what they gave us was a Thank You citation for helping to keep the river clean. No fine or anything, just a neat way of saying "Thanks" for helping pick up litter. It was a great gesture and has caused me to pick up every since. I wish all state agencies would do such.
